Congressman Russell Fry, who represents South Carolina’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing recent actions and remarks associated with Clemson University and Coastal Carolina University.
On September 15, 2025, Fry wrote, “Justification of this horrendous act on ANY LEVEL is unacceptable. Hopefully @CCUChanticleers will take action much quicker than @ClemsonUniv.” The following day, he addressed alleged comments made by professors at Clemson University regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk: “Clemson University hoped we wouldn’t notice the disgusting remarks of their professors applauding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I’m not letting that happen, and I’m not going to let up until accountability is taken. @CarlHigbie @Newsmax”
Later on September 16, Fry posted another message directed at Coastal Carolina University: “Totally unacceptable behavior! Terminate this person @CCUChanticleers These threats are not jokes”
Russell Fry has represented South Carolina’s 7th District in Congress since 2023 after replacing Tom Rice. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Fry was born in Surfside Beach in 1985 and currently resides in Murrells Inlet. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2007 and earned a law degree from Charleston School of Law in 2011.
