Congressman Russell Fry, who represents South Carolina’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted several updates on social media addressing regulatory changes, fisheries management, and collegiate sports policy. Fry has served in Congress since 2023, succeeding Tom Rice, and previously represented his community in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
On July 11, 2025, Fry commented on recent actions by the U.S. Department of Labor. In his post he stated: “Excellent news from @USDOL! Common sense is BACK.”
Later that day, Fry addressed federal regulations affecting the Red Snapper fishing industry. He wrote: “The Red Snapper industry doesn’t need more D.C. red tape—it needs real data, local control, and longer seasons. Fired up to join the South Atlantic Red Snapper Task Force alongside @RepRutherfordFL, @RepBuddyCarter, & @RepDavidRouzer. The states are ready—let’s get to work!” This statement reflects ongoing discussions about state versus federal management of fisheries.
On July 12, 2025, Fry addressed issues related to Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) rules in college sports and proposed legislation called the SCORE Act. He stated: “It’s time to rein in the wild west kingdom of NIL that we see in college sports right now—and the SCORE Act will do just that.
I joined @finebaum to talk about what @JudiciaryGOP, @HouseCommerce, and @EdWorkforceCmte is doing to bring order to the chaos.”
Russell Fry was born in Surfside Beach, South Carolina in 1985 and currently resides in Murrells Inlet. He holds a BA from the University of South Carolina (2007) and a JD from Charleston School of Law (2011).
