James E. Clyburn, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, addressed economic and community issues in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between September 15 and 16, 2025.

On September 15, Clyburn shared concerns about the impact of Trump administration policies on American incomes: “BREAKING: A new report shows the bottom 99% of Americans will see incomes drop by 2027 due to Trump’s tariffs and ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ Meanwhile, the White House is trying to rebrand it as ‘working families tax cuts.’ The American people aren’t stupid.” [September 15, 2025]

Later that day, he commented on the passing of Dr. Earl Richardson: “I’m saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend, Dr. Earl Richardson, President Emeritus of Morgan State University. Dr. Richardson leaves a remarkable legacy as a distinguished professor and a true civic leader. His work helped open minds, bring people together, and his” [September 15, 2025]

On September 16, Clyburn posted about recent job losses in manufacturing: “Over 42,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost under Trump since April, according to an analysis. The job cuts are attributed to Trump’s tariffs, his mass deportation operation, and his Big Ugly Bill’s gutting of the renewable energy sector.” [September 16, 2025]

Clyburn has served as South Carolina’s representative in Congress for over three decades after succeeding Robin Tallon in 1993. Born in Sumter in 1940 and currently residing in Columbia at age 82, he graduated from South Carolina State University with a BA in 1962.
