James E. Clyburn, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, posted a series of tweets on February 5, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump and his administration’s recent actions.

In a tweet posted at 20:34 UTC, Clyburn commented on Trump’s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast: “Trump used his National Prayer Breakfast address to continue spouting lies about the 2020 election being rigged and how losing it hurt his ego. If your faith leader constantly preached personal grievances like Trump, you’d find a different one. No message of faith, nor unity.”

Later that evening at 21:50 UTC, Clyburn addressed recent employment figures: “Employers fired 108,000 people in January, the highest for any January since the financial crisis in 2009. Trump’s policies are making the economy worse for Americans, not better.”

At 23:42 UTC on the same day, Clyburn cited polling data regarding public opinion of the Trump administration’s handling of Alex Pretti’s case and immigration enforcement: “61% of Americans believe the Trump administration is lying about what happened to Alex Pretti, according to a new Quinnipiac Poll. 63% disapprove of ICE’s immigration enforcement. I stand with the majority of Americans demanding a full investigation into Pretti’s death and real”

Jim Clyburn has served as South Carolina’s 6th District representative in Congress since replacing Robin Tallon in 1993. Born in Sumter in 1940 and currently residing in Columbia, he graduated from South Carolina State University with a BA in 1962.
