James E. Clyburn, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, has publicly criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran and its economic consequences in a series of tweets posted between March 10 and March 12, 2026.
On March 10, Clyburn wrote: “The first two days of Trump’s war with Iran cost Americans $5,600,000,000 on munitions alone. The total cost will be much higher.
With everything being so expensive, Trump should be investing in making life more affordable here in America, not waging new wars overseas.”
Continuing his criticism on March 11 regarding transparency from the administration about military casualties, he stated: “It’s clear the Trump administration is not being straight with the American people about the toll this war is taking on our brave servicemembers.
The Department of Defense first claimed that “several” troops sustained “minor” injuries in a March 1 attack in Kuwait. It now”
Addressing economic impacts again on March 12, Clyburn commented: “The cost of shipping everyday goods is going to increase due to Trump’s war with Iran. And those costs are going to be passed on to consumers.
Things were already expensive. Then came Trump’s tariffs. Now this.
It seems like Trump is focused on making prices go up, not down.”
Jim Clyburn was born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1940 and currently resides in Columbia. He graduated from South Carolina State University with a BA in 1962 and succeeded Robin Tallon as representative for South Carolina’s 6th district.
