James E. Clyburn, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, shared a series of posts on his Twitter account addressing both personal beliefs and recent political developments.

On August 29, 2025, Clyburn reflected on his upbringing and faith, stating: “My dad was a fundamentalist minister. He taught me something very important from the book of James in the second chapter that I live by: ‘Faith without works is dead.'”

Later that day, he commented on JD Vance’s defense of former President Donald Trump’s position regarding Federal Reserve independence. Clyburn wrote: “JD Vance is defending Trump’s reckless push to end Fed independence. If Trump had his way, he would drop interest rates so low that inflation would likely soar. We all want lower rates, but not at the cost of skyrocketing prices.” This statement comes amid ongoing debates about monetary policy and concerns over inflation.

On August 30, 2025, Clyburn addressed Trump’s order to create “specialized” National Guard units with rapid deployment capabilities. He posted: “Trump just ordered the creation of ‘specialized’ National Guard units that can be rapidly deployed to any city he wants. If Trump is serious about fighting crime, he should support local officials on the front lines—not use National Guard members as pawns in his political show.”

Clyburn’s remarks reflect his long-standing involvement in national politics and public service. Born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1940 and currently residing in Columbia, Clyburn graduated from South Carolina State University with a BA in 1962 and has represented South Carolina’s 6th District since succeeding Robin Tallon in Congress.
