James E. Clyburn, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, has recently shared several updates on social media. Clyburn, who was born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1940 and graduated from South Carolina State University in 1962, continues to engage with his constituents and address national issues.
On May 13, 2025, Clyburn announced an upcoming town hall meeting via Twitter. He stated: “I’ll be holding my next town hall on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 PM in Lake City, SC. We can do better, working together. I want to hear from you. Join me.” The tweet included a link for RSVPs.
Later that day, Clyburn commended the Episcopal Church for its stance against perceived injustices by the Trump Administration regarding refugee resettlement policies. He tweeted: “I commend the Episcopal Church for modeling integrity in the face of injustice after the Trump Admin favored white South Africans while suspending refugee resettlement for others.” He also quoted scripture: “Stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13).
On May 15, Clyburn addressed former President Trump’s criticism of the Digital Equity Act through another tweet. He asserted: “Trump’s rant against the Digital Equity Act is false and dangerous.” Clyburn emphasized that this bipartisan legislation aims to protect seniors from online scams and expand telehealth services in rural areas.
Jim Clyburn’s long-standing career includes replacing Robin Tallon in Congress back in 1993 and he currently resides in Columbia.
