James E. Clyburn, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 6th district since 1993, has recently shared his views on air travel safety and economic policies through a series of tweets.
On June 4, 2025, Clyburn expressed concerns regarding air travel safety under the Trump Administration. He emphasized the need for increased investment in air safety and air traffic controllers rather than reducing FAA staff and funding. He encouraged people to watch his hearing with the FAA Administrator by providing a link: “Americans are worried about air travel safety under the Trump Administration…”
In another tweet dated June 5, 2025, Clyburn commented on tensions between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk over a bill that he claims will increase national debt. He noted that Musk is dissatisfied with the bill for not further reducing government size while Americans are upset that it benefits billionaires like Musk and Trump: “TLDR: Trump’s mad at Elon Musk for recognizing his ‘big ugly bill’ will balloon our national debt…”
On June 6, 2025, Clyburn addressed issues surrounding an electric vehicle battery plant in Florence which has paused construction due to “policy and market uncertainty” attributed to Trump’s tariffs and legislative actions. This development poses a threat to job creation in South Carolina as it was expected to provide 1,600 jobs: “An EV battery plant under construction in Florence—expected to create 1,600 good-paying jobs—is hitting pause…”
Jim Clyburn was born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1940 and currently resides in Columbia. He graduated from South Carolina State University with a BA in 1962.
