Congressman Russell Fry, who represents South Carolina’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing the ongoing government shutdown and attributing its cause to Democratic lawmakers.
On November 5, 2025, Fry wrote: “It’s day 36 of the Democrats’ Shutdown. I’m joining @SpeakerJohnson to demand an end to it. Watch it live here: https://t.co/j7JKQeLy9j”.
By the evening of November 5, Fry continued his criticism by stating: “The longest shutdown in U.S. history didn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of @SenateDems’ deliberate obstruction. Families are missing paychecks, small businesses are hurting, and all Democrats care about is political leverage. Enough. Reopen the government.”
Russell Fry began serving in Congress in 2023 after replacing Tom Rice as representative for South Carolina’s 7th district; prior to that he served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022 and holds degrees from both the University of South Carolina and Charleston School of Law.
He was born in Surfside Beach in 1985 and currently resides in Murrells Inlet.
