McLeod Health: Welcomes These New Physicians

McLeod Health issued the following announcement on August 27.

McLeod Health welcomes Dr. Spencer G. Matthews and Dr. Brian Thacker to the medical staff.

Dr. Matthews joins Dr. Heather Shelton, Dr. Stephanie Strickland, and Physician Assistant Morgan Armstrong caring for patients at McLeod Family Medicine South. A native of Florence, Dr. Matthews has returned to his hometown to provide the full spectrum of primary care to families, friends, and neighbors of all ages. Prior to and during medical school, Dr. Matthews worked in the McLeod Regional Medical Center Emergency Department and participated in the McLeod Regional Medicine Summer Fellowship for second year medical students. Dr. Matthews and his wife, fellow Florence native Ashton, are parents of a one-year-old daughter, Carter. He enjoys spending time outdoors, golf, and leading his family in supporting the USC Gamecocks.

Dr. Thacker joins primary care physicians Dr. Lyndsi Cress, Dr. Chuck Mills and Dr. Mark Pelstring and advanced practitioners Julia Hucks, FNP, and Sarah Norris, FNP, serving patients at Southern Medical Associates in Loris. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Thacker treats a broad scope of health care needs, including the full spectrum of primary care as well as diabetes, obesity, lung disease, kidney disease, and multi-system diseases. Dr. Thacker treats patients of all ages, including newborn, pediatric, and geriatric patients, with special interest in nutrition & lifestyle, pediatrics, women’s health, and mental health. Dr. Thacker and his wife, Elizabeth, are parents of two-year-old daughter, Ellie. They enjoy performing as musicians, travel, hiking and outdoor activities, and cheering on BYU athletics.
