Anderson University issued the following announcement on October 29.
It was a fun outing with special friends.
Nursing students from the Anderson University College of Health Professions, along with Professor Heidi McCaulley, participated in the annual trunk or treat for the Rainbow Gang (Area 14 Special Olympics), one of their clinical sites for mental health nursing.
“I truly feel that our nursing students are enriched and uplifted through their experiences attending clinical at Rainbow gang while also gaining invaluable perspectives on how to interact with and provide nursing care for these individuals,” McCaulley said.
Kathy Schofield, special population recreation program director and Area 14 Anderson County Special Olympics co-area director, appreciates the nursing students' interaction with the Rainbow Gang, a day program for adults with IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) and their valuable assistance with activities, whether it’s line dancing, exercising or playing board games. She adds that many of the students volunteer for several Area 14 Special Olympics events.
“Our friendship with AU nursing students extends beyond our building, and they always show up and show out for our annual Trunk or Treat. The students always have spooky decorations, yummy candy, helpful spirits and smiles,” Schofield said. “We are so thankful for the partnership and generosity of Anderson University and AU Nursing Students and Staff.”
