Marlboro County School District issued the following announcement on November 2.

Last night at our regularly scheduled School Board meeting, the Board voted unanimously to hire Mr. Donald E. Andrews as Interim Superintendent.  He will start his new position on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.  Mr. Andrews comes highly recommended from the South Carolina School Board Association.  He has forty-five years of service as an educator, twenty-four of those years as a Superintendent.  Mr. Andrews has served in this capacity in other districts across the state and has a wealth of knowledge to share.

Some of Mr. Andrews’ accolades include two-time North Carolina State Superintendent of the Year, 100 to Remember Centennial Administrators, North Carolina (George Whitfield) Baseball Hall of Fame, and Unsung Leader Award North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

Mr. Andrews stated, “I am honored and privileged to be able to serve Marlboro County School District.  I am excited about this opportunity, and I want everyone to know that I feel strongly, without compromise, about educating the total child.  Of course, academics is our focus, however, we will also, as a team, position ourselves to do great things in preparing our students for an ever-changing world. We need public involvement and I want the public to know that I can be contacted by calling the District Office.  Again, I emphasize that academic achievement is our major focus, and we must all work together toward that goal.”

Board Chair Larry McNeil stated, “The Board unanimously agreed to hire Mr. Andrews as Interim Superintendent until May 30, 2022.  We will then regroup and decide on how to proceed.  Mr. Andrews will be working in tandem with Dr. Jason Bryant, Associate Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.  I have all the confidence in the world in Mr. Andrews’ leadership ability and can’t wait to see how our district thrives under his supervision.”

Acting Superintendent Dr. Jason Bryant added, “Mr. Andrews will be a great addition to our team.  His experience, knowledge, and passion for our students will provide leadership to lead our district through this transition.  We are looking forward to growing and pushing our district to new heights.”
