Recent Increased Discoloration of Water Attributed to Pump Failure at Darlington Street Water Plant

FLORENCE, SC –   The City of Florence is aware of recent increased concerns regarding discoloration of water in the central area of the city.  Utilities Department personnel have been working to resolve these issues and while tracing these concerns discovered a water pump motor failure this week at the City’s Darlington Street Water Plant.

City staff is working with the Regional South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) team to develop a remediation plan and resolve the current water quality situation.  For now, this water plant has been taken offline and will remain out of service until all necessary repairs are made.

The City of Florence understands and apologizes for the inconvenience this recent situation has created for many of our customers.  For questions, please contact the Utilities Department at 843-665-3236 or SC DHEC at 843-661-4825.
