CPRMC Awards $7,500 Grant to Pee Dee Coalition Through the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center Awards $7,500 Grant to Florence-based nonprofit Pee Dee Coalition through the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) awarded a grant of $7,500 to the Pee Dee Coalition, a Florence nonprofit organization dedicated to the reduction of sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse and to meeting the needs of victims. The grant was issued through the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity, an initiative of CPRMC’s parent company, ScionHealth.

“Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center is proud to support the Pee Dee Coalition and its many services meant to support victims of abuse in our community,” said Bill Little, CEO of CPRMC. “As a healthcare provider in our region, we are, unfortunately, called upon often to care for victims of abuse, and we understand well its devastating impact. We hope our grant makes a difference in the Pee Dee Coalition’s important advocacy for those who desperately need it.”

“The Pee Dee Coalition truly appreciates this grant from CPRMC and the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity,” said Ellen Hamilton, Executive Director at the Pee Dee Coalition. “This award will enable the expansion of our Alternatives to Violence Program as well as the continuation of our victim services for Darlington County citizens. We are most appreciative to both Carolina Pines for their nomination of our organization as well as ScionHealth for their generosity. We consider both partners in our vision for a safer, more compassionate Pee Dee Region.”

The Pee Dee Coalition is one of many not-for-profit organizations across the country receiving grants in the most recent round of funding from the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity, an initiative that invests in a broad array of not-for-profit organizations leading grassroots, community efforts that can affect real change. These efforts include causes related to healthcare disparities, gaps in the education system, and social services within the cities where ScionHealth team members live and work.

“We created the ScionHealth Institute of Inclusion and Equity as our company’s platform to better support the communities where our team members live and serve,” said Scott Shepherd, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, at ScionHealth and member of the company’s Inclusion and Equity Council, which oversees the Institute. “This grant to the Pee Dee Coalition provides another means for our local hospital, CPRMC, to positively impact the health of the local community.”

The ScionHealth Institute encourages ScionHealth employees – working at approximately 80 hospital locations across 25 states – to identify or nominate organizations in their communities doing the kind of work that helps those in need in underserved areas. The Pee Dee Coalition was nominated by Miranda Peavy, Coordinator of Marketing and Communications at CPRMC, which is part of ScionHealth’s network of community hospitals.
