Duke Energy - Hurricane Nicole Update

Below is some weather information from our team of Duke Energy meterologists.

Hurricane Nicole made landfall around 3AM earlier this morning on the east coast of Florida on North Hutchinson Island just south of Vero Beach as a Category 1 hurricane. As of 4AM, the storm had weakened to a tropical storm with a weakening, broad center of circulation. The National Hurricane Center shows Nicole weakening to a depression by early Friday morning in lower Georgia, then a remnant low over the Upstate, SC Friday morning. As Tropical Storm Nicole crosses the region, it will produce wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph and rainfall amounts of 1-4”. There is also a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across the central and eastern Carolinas on Friday with damaging wind gusts and isolated tornados possible. Waves of showers with embedded heavy rain will move into the region ahead of Nicole late this afternoon, with intensity increasing overnight into tomorrow morning. Models show a bit of a lull midday tomorrow before heavy rain crosses the region associated with the central circulation of Nicole. This will clear out quickly Friday evening, with clear conditions expected by Friday night through the weekend. As a reminder, the National Weather Service is your official provider of weather information.
