How CardioMEMS Helped A Rider Control Her Heart Failure here

In equestrian jumping, a horse's jump consists of five phases. There's the approach, the takeoff, the flight, the landing and, finally, the getaway.Just as Avery Jaster looked ready to take off in the sport of professional horse jumping, the 22-year-old college student got knocked out of it entirely. She was diagnosed with Class III heart failure. But that just made Jaster more determined to take control of her health. With the help of her cardiologist, she discovered the CardioMEMS HF System. The paperclip-sized heart failure remote monitoring system has helped keep Avery active and out of the hospital. And along the way, Jaster, a health sciences major at the University of Texas at Dallas, made another discovery: a passion for cardiology."As much as I always loved horse riding, and I was pretty good at jumping, there's a piece that felt missing." she said. "I wanted to help people, and I was figuring out how I could use my experiences to help others."Now, she's making some of the biggest strides in her life. In addition to her school work, Avery works as an intern for her cardiologist – using her experience to assist him and become a champion for other heart failure patients.
