James E. Clyburn, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 6th district, has recently shared a series of tweets commemorating significant historical events and providing updates on Medicare changes.
On December 6, 2024, Clyburn marked the anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States. He highlighted its importance alongside the 14th and 15th Amendments in advancing racial equality: "159 years ago today, the 13th Amendment was ratified, abolishing slavery in the U.S. Along with the 14th and 15th Amendments guaranteeing citizenship, equal rights, and voting rights, it marked a monumental step forward in the fight for racial equality."
Later that day, Clyburn reminded his followers about an important deadline concerning Medicare Open Enrollment ending on December 7. He informed them about upcoming changes to prescription drug costs: "Medicare Open Enrollment ends tomorrow, Saturday, December 7. Starting next year, out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will be capped at $2000/year for those with prescription drug coverage." He also provided a link for more information on these savings.
On December 7, Clyburn paid tribute to those who lost their lives during World War II following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor: "On this day 83 years ago, Japanese warplanes surprise attacked the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor shortly after dawn. The next day, Congress declared war on Japan, officially entering WWII. Today we remember all the lives that were lost fighting to protect our freedom."
