James E. Clyburn, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 6th district, shared several tweets in February 2025 commemorating Black History Month and honoring influential figures in African American history.

On February 18, Clyburn highlighted the achievements of Matthew Perry Jr., a notable civil rights attorney and the first African American U.S. District Court judge for South Carolina. Reflecting on his personal experience, Clyburn wrote, "#BlackHistoryMonth The Honorable Matthew Perry, Jr. was a remarkable civil rights attorney who made history as the first African American U.S. District Court judge for South Carolina."

In another tweet dated February 20, Clyburn acknowledged Lewis Latimer's contribution to Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb. He stated that Edison experimented with numerous materials before Latimer introduced him to the carbon filament, which was crucial for its success: "#BlackHistoryMonth Thomas Edison experimented with thousands of materials for his light bulbs, but they kept burning out."

On February 21, Clyburn paid tribute to his late friend John Lewis on what would have been his 85th birthday. He expressed admiration for Lewis's courage and called for continued dedication to his cause: "Today would have been my dear friend John Lewis's 85th birthday."
